Become a property developer?

I am currently in the army but wanting to leave, I'm 23 and have been in for 4years. I want to get a full time job preferably become a firefighter or policeman but on the side I want to get into being a handyman and be able upgrade my own house but eventually I want to get into property development. I dont know whether this is the right path though. I have the ability and qualifications to do a degree so would it be best just to go into engineering or architecture of some sort? I am stuck at a crossroads at the moment and need some direction. Am I just aiming for a dream that is hard to get into without the money in the first place or is it a realistic life to start from scratch in such a competitive market being a property developer?
