Best place to learn to become a handyman mainy carpentry/joinery?

Linked to my previous question I am wanting know where is the best place to learn how to beome a handyman. I like the thought of specializing in carpentry/joinery as I've always been interested in it and would love the though of being able to build my own furniture and save costs in the future when I want to build my own house. What is the best method book, courses etc... I work full time so could only do weekend stuff really but any anwsers are welcome.
